Two teenagers suffered serious injuries in La Granada, Alt Penedès, on Tuesday afternoon after a warehouse roof they had climbed onto collapsed, causing them to fall eight metres. Emergency services airlifted one victim to Hospital Sant Pau in Barcelona.

The incident occurred around 19:00 on Poeta Josep Maria Font street. Emergency services received the 112 call and quickly responded to the scene. Four ambulances from the Sistema de Emergencias Médicas (SEM) attended the site.

Emergency Response and Hospital Transfers

Sources consulted by the Agència Catalana de Notícies (ACN) detailed the victims' transfers. Emergency services airlifted the boy by helicopter to Hospital Sant Pau, a major teaching hospital in Barcelona's Horta-Guinardó district. Additionally, they transported the girl by road to Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Esplugues de Llobregat, serving the Barcelona metropolitan area.

Mossos d'Esquadra and Bombers de la Generalitat also attended the site. However, the Bombers did not need to act as the teenagers were not trapped under debris. La Granada is a municipality in the Alt Penedès comarca, approximately 50 kilometres west of Barcelona city.

Dangers of Disused Buildings

This incident highlights the dangers of accessing abandoned or disused structures. Such buildings often have unstable elements, like the collapsed roof in this case. Local authorities frequently warn against unauthorised entry due to the inherent risks. Both teenagers remain in serious condition as they receive treatment at the Barcelona-area hospitals. The severity of their injuries necessitated immediate and specialised medical attention. Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances leading to the collapse.
