Barcelona has recorded eight fatal traffic collisions and nine deaths so far in 2026, according to betevé’s traffic accident map. The toll is particularly relevant for pedestrians and other road users in areas including Hostafrancs, where the latest reported death involved an elderly man who was struck by a street-cleaning vehicle.

The previous fatal incident cited in the report was a collision involving two vehicles in which two people died. The supplied report does not give dates, exact locations or circumstances for all eight collisions.

What the Barcelona total includes

  • Eight fatal traffic collisions in Barcelona during 2026 so far.
  • Nine people killed across those incidents.
  • The latest reported death in the Hostafrancs neighbourhood, involving a street-cleaning vehicle and an elderly pedestrian.

With two deaths in one of the reported vehicle collisions, the number of fatalities is higher than the number of fatal incidents.

National June figures show rise on interurban roads

The Barcelona total concerns city traffic, while figures published by the DGT, Spain’s national traffic authority, cover road collisions across Spain. The DGT’s June 2026 bulletin recorded 142 deaths in 123 fatal road collisions, 51 more deaths than in June 2025.

It said 501 people had died on roads in Spain so far in 2026, 19 fewer than during the same period in 2025. The June increase was concentrated on conventional interurban roads, where deaths rose by 53 year on year, while fatalities on motorways and dual carriageways fell by two.

The DGT recorded 35 deaths in head-on collisions and 65 in run-off-road crashes in June. Its bulletin does not provide a breakdown for Barcelona’s urban streets.
