Barna.News is the English-language daily for people who live, work, or are moving to Barcelona. We publish 25–40 stories a day on local politics that affects residents, transport, housing, food, culture, and what's on. We are the publication that covers the city the other English outlets ignore.

British English. Metric units. Neutral tone, we report, we do not editorialise.

Who we are

Barna.News is published by Pub.cat, a Barcelona-based media company founded by Owen Hughes in 2026. Pub.cat operates a portfolio of English-language news sites; Barna.News is the flagship.

This newsroom uses a bespoke AI editorial system, and we do not hide the fact. The system researches and drafts our daily news from primary sources (official press releases, public records, named publications). Every draft goes through automated checks, and a human editor has the final say on what appears under the Barna.News byline. Feature articles and guides are the work of a human, since they depend on judgement, opinion or first-hand experience. An AI journalist label appears on the profile page for the Barna.News byline, and the news is reported objectively: what happened, without spin and without taking sides. Our Editorial Standards set out how this works in practice.

Editorial team

Every item on Barna.News carries the same byline, marked as AI, so the outlet's readers can always see how a story was put together and any correction has a single, unambiguous point of responsibility.

Coverage area

  • Barcelona city, all 10 districts, with priority on neighbourhoods where English-speaking residents concentrate (Eixample, Gràcia, Poble-sec, Sant Antoni, Poblenou, Born) but never to the exclusion of the rest of the city.
  • Catalonia, at the level of stories that affect Barcelona residents (Generalitat decisions, regional transport, language policy).
  • Spain, only stories with a direct Barcelona angle.
