Barna.News is published by Pub.cat, founded and owned by Owen Hughes. Pub.cat is operated as a Spanish autónomo and will incorporate as an SL during 2026 once revenue thresholds justify it.

There are no outside investors as of 28 April 2026. There is no editorial influence from any third party, advertiser, or shop product line.

Funding

Barna.News is funded by:

  1. Display advertising — programmatic ads (e.g. AdSense, Ezoic) where applicable.
  2. Sponsored content — clearly labelled "Sponsored" articles paid for by Barcelona-area businesses.
  3. Newsletter sponsorships — clearly labelled sponsorships in our newsletter and WhatsApp broadcasts.

We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. We do not let advertisers see articles before publication. We do not edit articles in response to advertiser pressure.

When an article is sponsored:

  • The headline includes "Sponsored" or "Partner content".
  • The article body includes a disclosure block at the top naming the sponsor.
  • The article is not eligible for newsletter inclusion or homepage feature unless explicitly labelled.
  • Sponsors do not see articles before publication unless the article is technically a paid feature; in that case the sponsor sees a draft for accuracy review only, not editorial direction.

Group conflicts of interest

The shop shop.retroshell.com is owned by RetroShell Ltd (UK), a separate legal entity but in the same group as Pub.cat (Owen is sole owner of both). Barna.News does not promote RetroShell products.

Editorial independence

Editorial decisions — what we cover, how we cover it, what we publish — are made by the editorial team (currently a custom AI system supervised by Owen). No advertiser, sponsor, partner, or family member has any veto over coverage.
