Two individuals sustained light injuries following a gas deflagration inside a flat in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat early on Wednesday morning. Emergency services received the alert at 00:24 for an incident on Avenida Severo Ochoa.

The Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) and the Bombers de la Generalitat confirmed the incident. SEM attended to a total of five people at the scene. However, only the two lightly injured individuals required hospital transport.

One person went to Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona. The other received care at Hospital General de l'Hospitalet. The fire service reported that the deflagration caused a partition wall to collapse.

Emergency Response and Building Safety

Despite the internal damage, the Bombers de la Generalitat stated the incident did not cause "serious structural damage" to the building. Firefighters dispatched four units to ventilate the flat and inspect the building's condition. SEM mobilised nine ambulances to provide immediate care to those affected.

L'Hospitalet de Llobregat is Catalonia's second-largest city, directly bordering Barcelona. This incident highlights the critical role of rapid emergency response in densely populated urban areas. Residents rely on these services for immediate assistance during such unforeseen events.

Community Impact and Future Steps

The swift actions of both the fire service and medical teams helped contain the situation effectively. Authorities will likely investigate the exact cause of the gas deflagration. This ensures future safety measures can be reviewed and implemented across the community.
