If you ask the Barcelona English-speaker community where to book a desk, one name comes back more than any other: Cloudworks. After that, opinion fragments by neighbourhood and price band. Here is the practical guide to the coworking spaces residents actually use, what they cost, and which one to pick for which kind of work.
The shortlist that comes up most
Four operators dominate the conversation.
Cloudworks runs multiple sites across the city: Sant Antoni, Eixample, Sant Cugat, Diagonal. The most-named space in the community chat. Day passes available, decent meeting rooms, English-speaking front desk, fast Wi-Fi on every site I have heard about. The Sant Antoni and Diagonal locations are the ones expat freelancers tend to land at.
Aticco runs larger spaces with a more startup-event vibe. Multiple Barcelona locations including Bogatell and the Marina area near Drassanes. Strong community programming: weekly events, demo days, a calendar full of after-work meet-ups for the resident base.
OneCoWork leans Eixample. Plaça Catalunya and Marina Port Vell are the central ones. Polished, tourist-friendly, slightly pricier per desk than Cloudworks or Aticco. The Plaça Catalunya site has the best location of any cowork in the city if you genuinely need to be in the centre.
MOB Makers of Barcelona sits on Carrer de Bailèn (Eixample) and at Pere IV in Poblenou. The maker and design crossover space. Workshops, prototyping equipment, a community feel that is closer to a club than a serviced office. Good if your work involves making physical things or sits at the design and tech intersection.
Other names (Talent Garden, OneCoWork's smaller competitors, the remaining WeWork location in town) show up in the chat occasionally but none stick the way the four above do.
Day pass or monthly?
The split is roughly. Day pass at €15 to €25 in 2026, good for one or two days a week or for testing a space before committing. Hot-desk monthly at €180 to €280, the honest middle ground; you get an unassigned desk most days plus credits for meeting rooms. Dedicated desk at €300 to €450; same desk every day, lockable storage, sometimes a monitor. Private office for 1 to 4 people at €600 and up; worth it for small teams, rarely worth it for a solo autónomo.
Add 21 per cent IVA to all of those if you are not VAT-registered as autónomo. Most people do not need a dedicated desk. Hot-desk plus an at-home setup is the pattern that works for most chat members, and the monthly cost is roughly what you would have spent on bad coffee and bad chairs in two months of café-camping.
Poblenou or Eixample?
Two clear answers depending on what you do.
Poblenou is the tech cluster. The 22@ district, the post-industrial blocks east of Arc de Triomf, the big product companies, the in-person meet-ups. If you work in tech and want incidental encounters with people in your industry, base yourself here. Aticco Bogatell and MOB Pere IV sit inside the cluster. The metro (L4 at Llacuna and Poblenou, L1 at Glòries) is reliable.
Eixample is easier to get to from anywhere in the city, more central, with better lunch options. The industries are more mixed (marketing, design, consulting, finance, legal) so the cross-pollination is wider but less deep. Cloudworks Sant Antoni and OneCoWork Plaça Catalunya are the typical picks here. L1, L3, L5 and the Sants Rodalies line all hit Eixample inside ten minutes.
If you live in Gràcia, Eixample wins on commute. If you live in Poblenou or near Glòries, Poblenou wins. If you live in Sants, both are 25 minutes; pick by industry.
What to actually check before signing a monthly
The same monthly fee can be twice as much value depending on what is included. Ask.
Phone booths: how many, and are they bookable? An open-plan space with no booths is unusable for a job that includes calls.
Meeting rooms: hours per month, and whether you can use them outside business hours. This is one of Cloudworks' quiet strengths; most members report it is the most flexible for after-hours and weekend bookings.
Printing: free pages per month. A surprising amount of autónomo admin still needs paper, especially anything that goes to Hacienda or a notary.
Locker: do you get one, or do you carry your laptop home every day?
Coffee and water: sounds petty. Three cappuccinos a day at €2 each adds €120 to your monthly cost over a four-week month.
Events: some spaces (Aticco, MOB) have a real community programme; others do not. Worth more than the desk discount if you are actively looking for collaborators or work.
The free-and-cheap alternatives
For one day a week of no-meeting work, the community suggestions:
Public libraries. Biblioteca Jaume Fuster in Plaça Lesseps and Biblioteca Sagrada Família are the two most-named. Quiet, free, no calls, fast Wi-Fi, no judgement about staying all day.
Specialty cafés. Honest disclaimer: most cafés do not love laptop campers, and you should not sit in one for six hours over a single coffee. Useful for an hour or two between calls, not a four-day-a-week strategy.
Hotel lobbies. A few hotels in Eixample have lobby seating that tolerates laptops; the community consensus is do not push it during busy periods.
For four to five days a week of focused work plus calls plus ad-hoc meetings, you want a real coworking subscription.
What most people miss
The right coworking is the one ten minutes from your front door.
Members who pick a space by aesthetics on Instagram and end up commuting 35 minutes there and back stop going within six weeks. Pick the closest of the four shortlist names. Use the trial day. If the chairs and the call booths and the coffee are fine, sign for a month. If not, try the next-closest. The "best coworking in Barcelona" is the one you actually walk to on a Tuesday morning when it is raining.
One other thing worth knowing: many of the coworking spaces above run small business-services packages (registered-office address, mail handling, occasional meeting room) at €30 to €60 a month for autónomos who otherwise work from home. Useful if you do not want your home address on every tax form, contract and invoice you send.
