A woman died and a man sustained injuries in a house fire on Carrer Major in Sant Pau de Segúries, Ripollès, early this morning. Firefighters responded to the blaze at 01:13, according to official reports from the emergency services.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the kitchen affected by the fire and heavy smoke throughout the property. They located the woman's body inside the kitchen. Emergency services took the injured man to Olot Hospital for treatment. The Medical Emergency System (SEM) mobilised three ambulances to the scene, alongside three fire brigade units, including two water trucks and a ladder truck.

Fire Investigation Underway

The fire primarily damaged the extractor hood and several kitchen utensils. After extinguishing the flames, firefighters ventilated the house, which smoke had affected. The Mossos d'Esquadra investigation unit has taken charge of the proceedings. Sant Pau de Segúries is a municipality in the Ripollès comarca, a rural area in Girona province, known for its natural landscapes and historical architecture.

Separate Incident in Sabadell

Separately, another kitchen fire occurred in Sabadell, Vallès Occidental, during the same early hours. This incident on Carrer de Cerdanyola caused mild smoke intoxication for several people. Two individuals received treatment at a Primary Care Emergency Centre (CUAP) in Sabadell. Sabadell is a major city in the Barcelona metropolitan area, home to over 215,000 residents, and a significant economic hub.

Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the fatal fire in Sant Pau de Segúries. These two incidents highlight the ongoing risks of domestic fires across Catalonia, prompting vigilance among residents.
