Police Conduct Early-Morning Raids
Agents of Spain's National Police conducted coordinated raids in Barcelona in the early hours of Wednesday 4th November 2026, targeting multiple premises tied to Apricots, a network of luxury brothels. The operation, part of an ongoing investigation into human trafficking for sexual exploitation, led to at least two arrests.
Key Figures Arrested
Those detained include Mikel A., known online as 'Dr. Love', an influencer with 2.2 million Instagram followers, and his wife. Both are under suspicion of involvement in human trafficking offences. Details remain under judicial secrecy, and it is not yet confirmed whether they remain in police custody or have been brought before a judge.
'Ethical Prostitution' Model Under Scrutiny
Mikel A., formerly active in the hospitality sector, built Apricots around a self-described model of "ethical prostitution", promoting it as transparent, voluntary, and legal. The company’s website states that only women who have "voluntarily chosen" to work in the profession are employed. However, investigators are now examining whether these practices concealed coercion or exploitation.
Some describe the operation as 'the fall of an empire,' reflecting Apricots' significant presence in Barcelona's high-end nightlife.
Broader Context of Exploitation
While this case remains under investigation, a previous operation by the City Police and National Police in November 2025 dismantled another trafficking ring that exploited women from Latin America. Victims were lured with fake job offers on social media, held in flats, and forced to work as prostitutes to repay fabricated debts of up to €3,000. That investigation, supported by EUROPOL, resulted in 12 arrests.
Public and Social Repercussions
'Dr. Love' was a visible figure in Barcelona’s elite social circles, frequently seen at Arsenal Masculino, an exclusive club in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. His arrest has caused shock among these networks. He had also been linked to other ventures, including a shisha lounge. The current investigation continues under strict judicial secrecy, limiting public information on the scope of the allegations or the roles attributed to each detainee.
