In short: pick a single event that recurs in your sector, then attend it three times. Developers can look to BarcelonaJS and Python Barcelona, both of which have 2026 dates listed on Meetup. Founders have Itnig's Thursday events. For design, consider MOB Barcelona and the talks run by the design schools. In finance, there is BCN FinTech. Every event listed below was verified against its own 2026 listings on 13 October 2026.
Disclosure: I am behind Bizcelona and Barcelona English Speakers (BES). Both feature in this guide, and I have a stake in each.
What to expect
Why it matters: life in a city becomes far easier once you know two or three people in your field who will spot you at the next event. Small groups that meet repeatedly are the fastest route to that, which is the reason this guide concentrates on them.
The recurring events listed here are mostly small to mid-sized. On BarcelonaJS's Meetup page, the two nights held at Itnig's café in September and October show 127 and 138 attendees. Plenty of groups pause over the summer, and several take July or August off. Look at the event page before turning up. A group with no date posted for months is one to leave alone.
Tech
- BCNEng is a volunteer-run online community for engineers in Barcelona. Its Slack carries channels covering jobs, programming languages, AI and more. I found no dated in-person event for 2026 on its site, so treat it as a Slack-first community.
- BarcelonaJS runs a monthly meetup. Its Meetup page lists 2026 nights on 14 July, 22 September and 7 October, with the last two at Itnig's café.
- Python Barcelona meets once a month. Its Meetup page lists 2026 nights on 30 April, 21 May, 30 June and 16 September. On 30 June it held a night at Cibernàrium, the training centre operated by Barcelona Activa.
- GDG Barcelona, the Google developer group, puts on events at irregular intervals. Its listings include May and June 2026, with further dates planned for late 2026.
- PyConES, the Spanish Python conference, takes place from 6 to 8 November 2026 at the University of Barcelona, according to its site.
Best for: developers after repeat contact. Avoid if: you want one big event a year. Go to 4YFN or Mobile World Congress instead.
Startups and founders
- Itnig was founded by Bernat Farrero. Its events page lists a "Pitch to Investors" session every Thursday at 19:00, plus a Tertulia (a talk) on 22 October 2026 at Itnig's café. Check the event page for the address and tickets.
- 4YFN, the startup track of Mobile World Congress, ran from 2 to 5 March 2026 at Fira Gran Via in L'Hospitalet, according to its site. Its 2027 edition is listed for 1 to 4 March. Mobile World Congress uses the same venue.
Best for: founders and early-stage operators. Avoid if: you are looking for a non-startup career.
Design
- MOB Barcelona runs coworking and creative spaces at Carrer de Bailèn 11, Avinguda de Francesc Cambó 17 and Carrer del Taquígraf Serra 7, according to its site. I could not find a 2026 public events calendar, so check before you plan around one.
- IxDF Barcelona is the Barcelona local group of the Interaction Design Foundation. Its page shows 2026 events that are mostly online.
- Elisava, part of the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia, publishes open talks. Its agenda lists a lecture on 21 October 2026, after an open day on 11 April and a graduate show from 16 to 18 June.
- IED holds free talks you can register for, such as its MUSES talks on 25 February 2026, per its events page. Its end-of-year shows are invitation-only.
Best for: product, UX and brand people. Avoid if: you need a reliable events calendar. Check each school's agenda first.
Finance and fintech
- BCN FinTech is an association that runs member events. Its site lists recent meetings on 22 April and 6 October 2026.
- CFA Society Spain has a Barcelona committee. Its events page lists a Lagarde Night on 29 October 2026, for members and subscribers, with registration.
- The British Chamber of Commerce in Spain runs member-led events. Check each listing for guest terms.
Best for: fintech and finance professionals. Avoid if: you want an open networking night.
Marketing and English-speaking groups
- Eventbrite's Barcelona marketing category lists a rotating set of events, with some in November 2026. In my reading of the listings, some are sales pitches and some are working roundtables.
- Barcelona English Speakers (BES), the expat community I also run, has topic WhatsApp groups and a Meetup group with free monthly events. It is the broadest option in this guide.
How to get more from a meet-up
- Go three times before you decide. The first time you know nobody. By the third, you have something to say.
- Skip the business-card stack. Take one number or one connection, and message the next day with one specific thing you talked about.
- Host before you feel ready. A small dinner you organise will do more for you than five big meet-ups you attend quietly.
- Be useful first. Ask what someone is working on and whether you can help. Your ask lands better afterwards.
Bizcelona: business networking for founders and senior professionals
I run Bizcelona. It is a business networking community for English-speaking founders, entrepreneurs, independent professionals and senior professionals in Barcelona. The aim is to be useful to each other as well as connected. Members can ask one another for help, and co-working days mix group sessions with focused working time. We aim for at least one event a month. The community works in English, with Spanish welcome.
It is not an open meet-up. Membership is by invitation, applications are reviewed by hand, and approval can take up to a week. Membership is free while the relaunch is under way. Request an invitation at bizcelona.com.
Best for: founders, entrepreneurs and senior professionals who want peers rather than a crowd. Avoid if: you want an open networking night or a drop-in event.
What I could not confirm
- Whether BCNEng holds in-person meet-ups in 2026.
- Whether MOB Barcelona and BAU run public events this year.
- The guest terms for British Chamber events.
- The address of Itnig's café. Check the event page.
- InterNations' Barcelona mixers. Its site would not load for us, so it is not listed.
Last checked: 13 October 2026. If a group has closed or moved, let us know and we will correct the guide.
