Evacuation Ordered Following Safety Inspection

A five-storey residential building at 14-16 Carrer de Covadonga in the Sant Roc neighbourhood of Badalona was evacuated preventively on Wednesday 4th November 2026 after a resident reported a suspicious crack in a ceiling. The alert prompted an immediate response from the Generalitat Firefighters, the Guardia Urbana, and the municipal architect, who attended the site to assess the building’s structural integrity. According to municipal sources, the technical inspection confirmed the building is in very poor condition, leading authorities to order the evacuation for safety reasons. Emergency crews and police patrols were deployed, with two firefighter units having since left the scene. Residents are being informed of the situation as assessments continue.

17 Households Affected, Relocation Efforts Underway

The building contains 20 homes, 17 of which are occupied. Badalona City Council’s social services team has arrived on site to evaluate the accommodation needs of affected residents and provide support. Municipal sources confirmed efforts are ongoing to find temporary housing solutions for those displaced. The building, which has four flats per floor plus ground-level units, is reported to have existing dampness issues in some apartments. Officials also noted the presence of sublet rooms, a factor that may complicate the identification and assistance of all occupants.

We are working to ensure all affected residents receive the necessary support and temporary housing,

, a municipal spokesperson said.

Ownership and Next Steps

The property is owned by the Institut Català del Sòl (Incasòl), the Catalan Land Institute responsible for managing public housing assets. A full structural assessment is now underway to determine the extent of the damage. Some flats may require shoring to secure the building’s stability. Residents remain outside the building awaiting further updates on the inspection’s findings and the timeline for any return. No injuries have been reported, and the evacuation remains precautionary while engineers complete their evaluation. The Institut Català del Sòl manages public housing across Catalonia, including through its public property inventory.
