A 31-year-old man has died after being struck by a van while crossing the B-10 motorway, known as Ronda Litoral, in Barcelona's Sant Andreu district. The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 AM on Tuesday 3rd November at kilometer 0.1 of the road.
The Urban Guard's Accident Investigation and Prevention Unit (UCAT) has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collision, which took place during the early morning hours. Authorities are working to determine how the pedestrian came to be on the motorway and the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal impact.
The Barcelona City Council confirmed the fatality in an official statement and has activated the Social Urgencies and Emergencies Center (CUESB) to provide support to the victim's family. The council extended its condolences to the deceased's loved ones.
2026 Traffic Death Toll Rises
This is the 16th traffic-related fatality recorded in Barcelona so far in 2026, according to city council data. The figure underscores ongoing safety concerns on major roads within the city, particularly for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and motorcyclists.
Last year, motorcyclists accounted for 54% of road deaths in Barcelona despite making up only 6% of total trips, according to a report published by La Vanguardia on 15th October 2026, citing city mobility data. The latest death adds pressure on city officials to strengthen road safety measures on high-speed urban routes like the B-10.
The city council remains committed to reducing traffic fatalities through improved infrastructure and enforcement, as outlined in its ongoing mobility plan.
