Festa Major de Vallvidrera 2026: dates and what to expect

The Festa Major de Vallvidrera 2026 runs from Thursday 10 September to Sunday 20 September. A hill-village festa up in Collserola, with the Fira Agrícola de Collserola alongside the concerts, theatre and popular meals.

Vallvidrera is not really in Barcelona in any way that matters to the eye. It is a settlement up in the Collserola range, on the far side of the ridge from the city, and it grew from the middle of the nineteenth century around the church of Santa Maria de Vallvidrera, which is considerably older and dates from the sixteenth. It has belonged to Sarrià since 1890.

For a long time it was where Barcelona went in summer, a hill town of second homes above the heat. That has changed: the people up there now mostly live there year round, and the festa is theirs rather than a holiday-season entertainment.

What is on

The Associació de Veïns de Vallvidrera and the barri's civic centre put the programme together, and it is deliberately broad rather than deep: exhibitions, children's workshops, theatre, festa major dances, sporting activities, concerts and popular meals. The stated intention is that everyone finds something, which is what you do when your catchment is a village rather than a district.

The Fira Agrícola de Collserola has been part of it for years now, and it is the fixture that could not happen anywhere else on this list: local growers showing organic produce from the range itself. Barcelona does not have much agriculture left. What it has is largely up here.

Why this one is worth the trip

For the setting, straightforwardly. This is a festa major held in woodland on a ridge with the whole city laid out below it, and the journey up is half the point. The first recorded reference to the festa is only from the 1960s, so it does not carry the weight of Sant Roc or Horta, and it does not pretend to.

Go for the combination: a small hill village doing an ordinary Catalan festa, twenty minutes and a funicular ride from the middle of a city of a million and a half people.

Where it is

Vallvidrera grew from the mid-nineteenth century around a sixteenth-century church on the far side of the Collserola ridge, and has belonged to Sarrià since 1890. It was where Barcelona went in summer; now people live there year round.

The programme, day by day

The full programme is not published yet. The Festa Major de Vallvidrera programme is set by the street commissions and released by the organisers a few weeks before the festa, and it reaches the city's open event feed only after that. As of 7 August 2026 it had not.

Practical

Getting there is the main thing to plan. Take the FGC to Peu del Funicular and change onto the Funicular de Vallvidrera, which climbs to the village. It is part of the integrated fare system, so a normal transport ticket covers the whole journey. Driving is possible but the roads up are narrow and parking in the village is limited.

Check the last funicular. This is the single most important piece of planning for an evening act up here, and it catches people out every year. Coming down late without it means a taxi or a long walk.

Take a layer. Vallvidrera sits several hundred metres above the city on a wooded ridge, and September evenings up there are noticeably cooler than they are down in the Eixample.

What it costs. Nothing for the programme itself. The popular meals charge and generally need signing up for. The Fira Agrícola is a market, so bring cash for the stalls.

It is a village, with village capacity. There are a handful of restaurants and they will be full during the festa. Book, or eat before you come up.

Make a day of the park. You are inside the Parc Natural de la Serra de Collserola. If you are coming up for an afternoon act, come up earlier and walk; the paths from the village are well marked and the views back over Barcelona are the best available anywhere.
