Festa Major del Poble-sec 2026: programme, dates and what to expect

Last updated 29 July 2026

Festa Major

This year's festa has finished. The Festa Major del Poble-sec ran 17 to 26 July 2026. The programme below is kept as a record of what was on, and this page is updated when next year's dates are confirmed. Next up is Festa Major de Gràcia, 15 to 21 August 2026.

The Festa Major del Poble-sec 2026 ran from Friday 17 July to Sunday 26 July. Street programmes, concerts, communal dinners and fire in the neighbourhood below Montjuïc, almost all of it free and almost none of it aimed at visitors. It closes with a cart race down Carrer de Fontrodona and a fireworks finale.

What it is

A street in Poble-sec, BarcelonaGeneric photo

Poble-sec sits between Avinguda del Paral·lel and the foot of Montjuïc: a dense grid of low buildings, the Carrer de Blai tapas strip, and a tradition of organising itself. The festa major is run by the neighbourhood's comissió de festes and by the individual street committees, and it shows in the shape of the programme. Rather than one big stage, the festa runs as a constellation of street programmes: Carrer de les Hortes, Carrer de Tapioles, Carrer de Blesa, Plaça de Santa Madrona, Plaça del Sortidor, Plaça Valerie Powles and the Solar de la Puri each run their own bill of concerts, meals, games and children's activities, most nights of the ten.

The result is the opposite of a festival you buy a ticket for. You walk between squares, you eat where the neighbours are eating, and the programme happens around you. If you have only heard of Gràcia, this is the version without the crowds.

Where it is

Poble-sec runs from Avinguda del Paral·lel up to the foot of Montjuïc, a dense, low-rise grid best known for the Carrer de Blai pintxos strip. It is one of the most walkable and most sociable neighbourhoods in Barcelona, and during the festa the whole of it turns into a set of open-air stages.

Metro: Poble Sec (L3) and Paral·lel (L2, L3).

The programme, day by day

The full programme is not published yet. The Festa Major del Poble-sec programme is set by the street commissions and released by the organisers a few weeks before the festa, and it reaches the city's open event feed only after that. As of 29 July 2026 it had not.

Rather than guess the times from last year, this page lists only what is confirmed for 2026. The day-by-day listing appears here automatically once the programme lands, the same feed that powers our What's On in Barcelona pages.

What the city's feed already carries for this festa: Exposició '25 anys dels Gegants nous i cartells de Festa Major' (2 July, 09:00).

Practical

Getting there. Metro Poble Sec (L3) puts you at the centre of it, and Paral·lel (L2 and L3) is a two-minute walk from the northern edge. The funicular to Montjuïc leaves from Paral·lel if you want to make an afternoon of it. Streets close progressively through the evening, so driving in is a bad idea.

What it costs. Nothing, for the street programme: concerts, parades and children's activities are free. You pay for food and drink, generally at bars run by the street committees themselves, and those takings pay for the festa. A few items, the guided visits to the Refugi 307 air-raid shelter and the chess tournament among them, ask you to sign up in advance.

Eating. Carrer de Blai is the obvious answer and will be busy; the communal dinners are the interesting one. Several streets run a sopar popular where you bring your own food (the carmanyola, a lunchbox) and sit at long tables with several hundred neighbours. You are welcome; bring something to eat and something to share.

The correfoc. The children's fire run goes first, early evening on Saturday 25 July, and the adult correfoc follows at 22:00 from Plaça de Navas. If you plan to dance under the sparks, wear cotton with long sleeves, closed shoes and a hat, and keep your mouth shut when the fountains go up. Watching from the pavement needs nothing beyond ear protection for small children.

Noise. Music in the squares runs late on the final weekend. Poble-sec is a residential neighbourhood, and the festa is the one week a year it makes no apology for that.
