Festa Major de la Bordeta 2026: dates and what to expect

The Festa Major de la Bordeta 2026 runs from Wednesday 2 September to Saturday 12 September. The festa of one street and two squares in the old industrial belt west of Sants, with three separate programmes that converge for a single closing afternoon of giants, dance and fire.

La Bordeta grew in the nineteenth century along the old road that linked the town of Sants to Sant Boi de Llobregat. Like much of the Sants-Montjuïc district it filled with industry, and then with housing for the people who worked in it. The parish of Sant Medir, built in 1949, has been the barri's social and cultural anchor ever since.

What makes this festa unusual is its shape. It is not really the festa of a neighbourhood at all. It is the festa of one street and two squares: the carrer dels Jocs Florals de Baix, the plaça del Fènix and the plaça de Súria. Each of those three cores runs its own programme, with its own havaneres concert or its own fire act, and for most of the festa they operate in parallel rather than together.

The act that pulls it together

On the final afternoon the three cores converge on the plaça de Celestina Vigneaux for a single joint act, and it is the one to plan around. It opens with a xocolatada, continues with the ball of the gegants de Sants, and then becomes La Bordeta en dansa, a showcase of dances from all over in which the Esbart Ciutat Comtal takes part. Once it is properly dark, the Diables de Sants close the whole thing with a fire show.

That single afternoon is the festa in miniature: food, giants, dance and fire, in that order, in one square.

Why this one is worth the trip

Because three-core festes are rare and this is the clearest surviving example in the city. Most neighbourhood festes centralised long ago into one programme run by one commission. La Bordeta's is still organised by the Comissió de Veïns i Veïnes de la Bordeta across three separate pieces of ground, which is closer to how these things worked everywhere a century ago.

It also sits immediately before the Festa Major de Sants in the calendar and shares its giants and its diables. If you are already coming out to Sants, this is the same district's quieter, older-shaped version, a fortnight ahead of it.

The programme, day by day

The full programme is not published yet. The Festa Major de la Bordeta programme is set by the street commissions and released by the organisers a few weeks before the festa, and it reaches the city's open event feed only after that. As of 12 August 2026 it had not.

Rather than guess the times from last year, this page lists only what is confirmed for 2026. The day-by-day listing appears here automatically once the programme lands, the same feed that powers our What's On in Barcelona pages.

Practical

Getting there. Metro Mercat Nou on L1 is the closest stop to the barri. Plaça de Sants, on L1 and L5, is a longer walk but better connected if you are coming across the city. La Bordeta is flat and compact once you are in it.

Know that it happens in three places. The carrer dels Jocs Florals de Baix, the plaça del Fènix and the plaça de Súria each run their own programme, and they are not on top of each other. Check which core an act belongs to before setting out, or you will arrive at a quiet square while the thing you wanted is two streets away.

What it costs. Nothing for the street programme. Communal meals and tastings usually charge and often need signing up for.

The last afternoon is the one. If you can only go once, go to the joint act in the plaça de Celestina Vigneaux: xocolatada, giants, the dance festival and then the Diables de Sants after dark, all in one square.

Correfoc rules, as everywhere. Cotton clothing with long sleeves, closed shoes, a hat if you have one, and keep your mouth closed. The fire act here is a set-piece show in a square rather than a run through the streets, which makes it easier to watch from a distance.

Do not confuse it with Sants. The two are neighbours in the same district and share the same giants and diables, but they are separate festes with separate commissions and separate dates.
