Work to Target A-2, B-10 and B-30 Sections
On Tuesday 27th October 2026, the Council of Ministers approved the contract for noise reduction works on the A-2, B-10 and B-30 motorways in the province of Barcelona, at a cost of €12.5 million, according to a statement by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. The project will cover approximately 2.9 kilometres of the A-2, around 1.4 kilometres of the B-10 between kilometres 18 and 19.4, and about 4.9 kilometres of the B-30. These sections pass close to residential and institutional areas affected by traffic noise.
Protecting Hospitals and University
Acoustic screens will be installed along the B-10 to reduce noise near Bellvitge Hospital. On the B-30, the barriers will shield Asepeyo Hospital, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and the Bellaterra residential development. The UAB, located in Bellaterra within the municipality of Cerdanyola del Vallès, is a major public university with over 40,000 students and a significant research footprint. Its proximity to the B-30 has long raised concerns about traffic noise affecting academic and residential life. On the A-2, screens will be installed on both sides of the motorway, and sound-absorbing pavement will be laid to further reduce noise levels.
Supporting Works and Environmental Management
The contract also includes dismantling and replacing safety barriers and enclosure meshes, modifying affected utility services, and carrying out complementary construction works. Full management of construction and demolition waste will be required, alongside safety, cleaning, and finishing works. The project is part of the second phase of the national Action Plan Against Noise on motorways, officially approved under the Ministry of Transport’s resolution and published in the State Official Bulletin (BOE) under reference 39-B-5220. These improvements aim to deliver measurable reductions in noise pollution for residents and institutions near these motorway corridors.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is committed to improving quality of life in communities affected by road traffic noise through targeted infrastructure investment.
Further details on the project are available via the Ministry’s official announcement.
