Camera to Target Speeding Near Residential Homes

The Barcelona City Council will install a speed enforcement radar on Passeig de la Vall d'Hebron, along the side of the Ronda de Dalt, during the first quarter of 2027. The announcement, first reported by El Periódico and confirmed to the Catalan News Agency (ACN) by municipal sources, aims to tackle persistent speeding and noise issues in the area. The radar will cover a 125-metre downhill stretch between the intersections with Carrer de l'Arquitectura and Carrer de Pare Mariana. This section, though adjacent to the high-capacity Ronda de Dalt, is part of the city’s urban fabric and has homes located directly alongside the roadway.

Response to Resident Complaints

Vehicles tend to accelerate and exceed the established speed limit.

According to the council, the primary reason for the installation is not a high accident rate or a history of traffic fines, but rather to enforce the 30 km/h speed limit and reduce the impact of traffic on nearby residents. Local complaints have focused on excessive noise from acceleration and general disturbances caused by fast-moving vehicles. The move aligns with broader city efforts to improve road safety and quality of life in residential zones. The council emphasised that the stretch is urban and residential, despite its proximity to a major ring road, and that compliance with lower speed limits is essential for community well-being.

What This Means for Drivers

Drivers should expect increased enforcement of the 30 km/h limit on this stretch of Passeig de la Vall d'Hebron from early 2027. The camera will monitor the downhill section where speeding has been frequently observed. No specific launch date within the first quarter has been announced. Further details on the radar’s operation and any associated traffic changes will be published by the Barcelona City Council’s security and prevention department.
