Free Celebration Marks 125 Years of Tibidabo
Tibidabo Amusement Park will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Sunday, October 4, with a free public party starting at 10:00 AM, according to Barcelona City Council. The event will take place in the park’s panoramic area and includes music, entertainment, and special surprises. It forms part of a broader celebration of over a century of shared memories for Barcelona residents.
Public Walk and Free Access
A popular walk will precede the festivities, beginning at Jardinets de Gràcia and ending at the Tibidabo Funicular station. From there, participants can ride the funicular to the park at no cost. Both the walk and the celebration are open to the public but require prior registration due to limited capacity. A registration form is available on the Tibidabo Amusement Park website.
A Landmark in Barcelona’s History
Opened on October 29, 1901, Tibidabo is the oldest operating amusement park in Spain and the second oldest in Europe. The park’s founding vision, led by Dr. Salvador Andreu i Grau in the late 19th century, aimed to make the Tibidabo mountain an accessible cultural and leisure destination. The inauguration of the Tibidabo Funicular, the first in Spain, played a crucial role in connecting the city to the mountain. It remains in operation today, having become an integral part of the visitor experience. Since 2002, the park has been managed by Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM), a public company under the Barcelona City Council. Today, it features 35 attractions and multiple dining options, blending heritage with modern innovation.
