Visitors to Park Güell can see A recer del Park Güell, a photographic exhibition in the Plaça de la Natura that is scheduled to run until 13th December. The display, which opened on 14th May, brings together 900 images and 100 texts on the park’s relationship with Barcelona and the people who have used it over the past century.
For local families, nearby residents and architecture enthusiasts, the exhibition offers a free-to-view account of the public park’s everyday life and less visible heritage, installed beneath a large arched pergola in one of Park Güell’s principal public spaces.
Barcelona City Council and BSM, the municipal company that manages city services and facilities, promoted the exhibition. Marina Cervera Alonso de Medina curated the project.
A centenary display within two city-wide programmes
The exhibition marks 100 years since Park Güell became a public park. It also forms part of the Year of Gaudí, Barcelona’s 2026 programme commemorating the centenary of architect Antoni Gaudí’s death.
It is also included in Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026, a separate 10-month programme running from 12th February to 13th December. According to Barcelona City Council, the architecture capital programme includes more than 1,500 public activities across the city’s 10 districts, while the Gaudí Year focuses on the architect’s legacy and influence on Barcelona.
The pergola housing the display draws on the catenary arches used by Gaudí, including those at the Gaudí House Museum in Park Güell and at Casa Batlló. Its green exterior is intended to blend with the park’s vegetation.
Three views of Park Güell
The exhibition is arranged around the idea of the park as a place of shelter, moving from its physical foundations to the memories attached to it and proposals for its future.
- The unseen park: caves, cisterns, mines and tree canopies that shape and support the visible landscape.
- Shared memory: photographs from neighbourhood association workshops, institutional archives, private collections and photographers’ collections, including scenes of school visits, concerts, celebrations, snowfall, communions and children’s first steps.
- The future: 100 postcard-format texts looking towards 2126, including 50 new reflections from people linked to the neighbourhood, institutions and specialist fields, alongside 50 historical quotations from figures including Antoni Gaudí, Eusebi Güell and Josep Maria Jujol.
Where to see the exhibition
A recer del Park Güell is located under the pergola in Plaça de la Natura at Park Güell and is due to remain open until 13th December. The exhibition is among the Park Güell activities listed in the City Council’s Gaudí Year programme.
The display presents the park not only through Gaudí’s architecture, but through the geological, natural and social history that has shaped it before and after its conversion into a public space.
