Residents Report Neglect in L'Hospitalet Social Housing

The municipal group of the People's Party (PP) has formally denounced the state of social housing at Carrer del Prat number 13 in the Bellvitge neighbourhood of L'Hospitalet. Spokesperson Sonia Esplugas visited the building and spoke with residents who described ongoing issues with maintenance, unpaid social rent, and suspected illegal subletting. Esplugas accused Mayor David Quirós of neglecting residents despite municipal efforts to acquire and provide social housing. She described the situation as one of "pure negligence, pure abandonment" and called the mayor's approach "hypocritical". Residents reported repeated calls to both the Guardia Urbana and the City Council with no resolution. According to Esplugas, these appeals have not led to any effective intervention.

Deteriorating Surroundings and Parking Issues

Beyond the building itself, Esplugas highlighted unsanitary conditions around numbers 11 and 13 on Carrer del Prat, including accumulated garbage and metal debris. She also pointed to a disused parking area in front of the buildings where several abandoned vehicles, reportedly damaged by theft, remain. The Guardia Urbana, responsible for local civic enforcement, operates under the Ajuntament de L'Hospitalet and is tasked with maintaining public order and safety (ajuntament.l-h.cat). Historical municipal records show that Carrer del Prat has long been a site of public works, including school renovations and urban planning projects (inventariarxiu.l-h.cat). A 1982 file documents a municipal housing reform project at number 11, indicating longstanding civic investment in the area (inventariarxiu.l-h.cat).

We are acquiring housing to offer it for social rent, but then the result is pure negligence, pure abandonment, when it comes to responding to this need that the residents of L'Hospitalet have.

, Sonia Esplugas, PP Spokesperson
