Barcelona City Police recently arrested a motorcyclist in the Eixample district after a traffic accident. The man tried to hide half a kilo of cocaine and other illegal substances in a nearby bar's toilet.
Officers from the Guàrdia Urbana arrived at the accident scene. They discovered one of the two motorcyclists involved was missing; he had gone into the toilet of a nearby bar, the police force explained. Police went to the establishment and knocked on the toilet door. The man replied he was 'doing his business', according to the police force. Officers immediately suspected the injured man's unusual behaviour.
Drug Discovery and Arrest
When the motorcyclist emerged, city police searched the toilet. They found 500 grams of cocaine, over 460 grams of ecstasy, and approximately 150 cubic centimetres of GHB. Police arrested the man on charges of a crime against public health, the Guàrdia Urbana detailed.
The Ajuntament de Barcelona distributed an image showing the motorcyclist also carried money. The exact amount was not specified. The Eixample district, a central area home to over 260,000 residents, was the scene of the accident. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to combat drug trafficking in the city.
Related Drug Operation in Sants-Montjuïc
Additionally, this week, Guàrdia Urbana agents and Mossos d’Esquadra officers conducted a joint operation. They raided a flat in the Sants-Montjuïc district. Investigators concluded that individuals linked to this property sold drugs to foreign nationals on La Rambla.
The flat served as a storage point for the drugs. This operation resulted in four arrests. Agents seized cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, and marijuana during the raid.
Authorities continue their investigations into drug distribution networks across Barcelona. These operations aim to disrupt the supply of illegal substances in popular areas like La Rambla and residential districts.
