A Barcelona judge has ordered closed-regime internment for a minor accused of homicide in the city's Raval neighbourhood. This decision by Section 3 of the Barcelona Juvenile Court follows a fatal stabbing incident on Saturday night.
The Barcelona City Police (Guàrdia Urbana) detained the minor shortly after the incident. They then handed him over to the Minor's Prosecutor's Office on Sunday. Police link him to the alleged homicide.
Details of the Fatal Stabbing
Catalan Police (Mossos d'Esquadra) received an alert at approximately 23:55 on Saturday. The report concerned an incident on Calle de la Cera. An adult man sustained serious stab wounds there. He later died in hospital.
Multiple units from the Mossos, Guàrdia Urbana, and Bombers responded. Medical Emergency System (SEM) personnel also attended the scene.
Judicial Process for Minors
The order for closed-regime internment means the minor will be held in a secure facility. This measure typically applies in serious cases involving juvenile offenders. The High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) confirmed the judge's ruling on Monday.
Raval Community Impact
The Raval district is a densely populated and diverse area in central Barcelona. Home to many residents and businesses, it frequently faces challenges related to public safety and social integration. This incident has raised concerns within the community.
The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Catalan Police has taken over the investigation. They continue to gather evidence and establish the full circumstances surrounding the man's death.
