El Periódico reports that Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, have arrested a man after an attack on a woman at a supermarket in the Pomar neighbourhood of Badalona at 12.50pm on Tuesday.
The woman was taken to hospital and her life is not in danger, according to Mossos sources. The police are treating the case as an attempted homicide investigation.
The incident took place at the same supermarket where the man had been arrested the previous day on suspicion of robbery with violence and disobeying police officers. After appearing before a court and being released, he returned to the premises, according to the report.
Police say the attack was unprovoked
"He lunged at the woman without apparent provocation," Mossos told El Periódico.
Police said the man used a glass bottle in the alleged assault. He was subsequently detained.
