Two people have been arrested after Barcelona Urban Guard and Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police, found about half a kilogram of cocaine hidden in the mailbox of a residential building in Nou Barris.

The two suspects are described only as occupants of the flat. Their names, ages and nationalities have not been published. For neighbours, the operation followed reports of frequent visitors to the property at all hours and complaints about nuisance behaviour and public-space deterioration nearby, according to El Periódico’s report.

“The police had received information about the existence of this drug flat and that it had a high footfall of buyers, who came at any time of day,” El Periódico reported.

Cocaine concealed behind old advertising leaflets

The joint operation took place on Thursday morning after a two-month investigation. Officers searched the flat, which police considered a drug-selling point, and inspected its mailbox.

Behind old advertising leaflets, they found the cocaine. The report said the alleged occupants had stored it there so it would be outside the flat if police entered, while remaining close to the street for a possible buyer.

  • About 500 grams of cocaine were found in the mailbox.
  • Officers also seized €11,000 in cash from the flat.
  • They found 265 grams of gold jewellery, which police suspect may have been used to buy drugs.

Residents can report suspected dealing and nuisance

El Periódico reported that police received numerous neighbourhood complaints before the operation, including concerns about buyers’ behaviour and drug consumption near the building. The report does not identify the street or the specific building.

Residents who witness suspected drug dealing or repeated nuisance connected with a property can report it to the Mossos d'Esquadra or Barcelona Urban Guard, giving the address, dates, times and a description of what they saw. They should not confront people they believe may be involved.
