Barcelona is preparing to host the Mobile World Congress (MWC) from 1st to 4th March 2027, with the event expanding into healthcare, automotive and aviation for the first time, as reported by 20Minutos.
The GSMA, organiser of MWC, says the move aims to bring global leaders together under one roof to explore technologies shaping the future. Three new thematic zones will be introduced: Connect Health, Connect Auto and Connect Aviation. Connect Health will feature AstraZeneca, Garmin Health and Medtronic; Connect Auto will include 5GAA and Chery, the Chinese firm based in Cornellà de Llobregat; and Connect Aviation will host Seamless Air Alliance, Imagine Wireless and Barch.
Focus on Health Innovation
John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA, said at a press event on Thursday 5th November that connectivity and artificial intelligence are converging, with transformative potential. The Connect Health segment, supported by Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat and the Spanish Ministry for Digital Transformation, will host over 70 speakers.
The bata blanca needs to come to Mobile, said Laia Corbella, CEO of Mobile World Capital Barcelona, highlighting Barcelona's strong health innovation ecosystem.
The health programme will focus on four areas: AI & Data, Care Reinvented, Accelerating R+D and From Healthcare to Care, covering digital therapeutics, healthy ageing and equitable access.
Organisers aim to attract over 100,000 attendees. Returning exhibitors include Google, Telefónica and Amazon, while new additions include Chinese luxury electric car brand Avatar, set to launch models in 2027.
