Barcelona City Council has launched a new "Music and Film Corner" at four Green Points across the city. Residents can now freely exchange original CDs, DVDs, and vinyl records, promoting reuse and reducing waste. This pilot project began in April in the Poblenou, Vallcarca, Fort Pienc, and Sants districts.

The initiative aims to give new life to musical and audiovisual content no longer sold commercially. Previously, Green Points sent collected CDs and DVDs for recycling. In 2025, these facilities processed 34 tonnes of such materials. Vinyl records, however, could not be recycled and went to landfill.

Users can take up to three items per day. They can increase this limit by contributing their own original materials. The council only accepts original items with covers, not recorded copies.

Promoting Sustainable Practices

This six-month pilot project will undergo evaluation. The City Council will assess its operation to decide on a potential expansion to other Green Points city-wide, according to the consistory. This new service aligns with Barcelona's broader sustainability goals.

The "Music and Film Corner" builds on the success of similar reuse initiatives at Green Points. The "Book Corner", for example, has operated since 2010. It serves over 158,000 users annually.

Success of Existing Reuse Corners

The "Book Corner" sees more than 375,000 books deposited and 266,000 withdrawn each year. In 2025 alone, this service prevented over 212,000 kilograms of paper waste. Additionally, the "Toy Corner" operates in partnership with the Formació i Treball Foundation.

The "Toy Corner" collects items and selects them for reuse. Some toys go to vulnerable families through social services. Others are sold in second-hand shops. This initiative prevented over 66,000 kilograms of waste in 2025.

The introduction of the "Music and Film Corner" further expands Barcelona's commitment to circular economy principles. This project offers residents a new way to access cultural content while actively contributing to waste reduction efforts across the city. Its future expansion will depend on the pilot's success.
