Opening Date Confirmed Amid Local Dispute
A large McDonald's restaurant in El Prat de Llobregat is set to open on Wednesday 29 October, as confirmed by signage on the building and reported by Metrópoli Abierta. The 400-square-metre outlet, located on the ground floor of a residential building at the corner of the beach road, forms part of new social rental housing developments by the Cooperativa Obrera de Viviendas (COV). Exterior work is complete and the brand's illuminated signs have been installed, indicating that preparations are finalised for the launch.
Residents Protest Noise and Traffic Fears
Local residents have launched a petition on Change.org that has gathered over 1,000 signatures, calling on the El Prat City Council and COV to halt the project. In a manifesto, they argue the fast-food outlet will disrupt the historically "serene" character of the neighbourhood. Key concerns include persistent noise from late-night operations and motorcycle deliveries, increased litter, and worsening traffic and parking shortages. "Introducing a McDonald's into our area will not only disrupt the daily lives of residents but also alter the character and atmosphere of the neighbourhood," the group stated. They also warn of negative impacts on El Prat’s traditional small businesses.
These restaurants are known for their operations late into the night and the constant activity of motorcycle deliveries, which disturbs our peace.
15 Jobs to Be Created in Local Hiring Drive
On the other side of the debate, some residents welcome the development for its economic benefits. McDonald's has begun a recruitment process to hire 15 people for the new outlet, offering permanent part-time contracts from day one, according to job listings on empleo24.es published in September 2026. The company describes the roles as offering full training, internal promotion opportunities and a dynamic work environment. The restaurant will operate daily from 9:00 to 00:00 Monday to Saturday, and from 11:00 to 00:00 on Sundays, based on information from GPS Data Team.
