Renovation and Expansion Planned
The Ajuntament de L'Hospitalet de Llobregat will expand and renovate the El Gornal Senior Citizens' Center, following the opening of upgraded facilities in the Sant Josep neighbourhood on Tuesday 15 September 2026. Mayor David Quirós announced the upcoming works during a visit to the new Sant Josep centre, reaffirming the council's commitment to modernising all senior centres across the city.
We have a debt to the El Gornal neighborhood. Its senior citizens' center has fulfilled its function and task. It has become too small for us.
Improving Quality of Life for Older Residents
The council aims to enhance the quality of life for older people by upgrading public facilities, promoting autonomy, and combating social isolation. The El Gornal centre, like others in the municipal network, will be modernised to provide better spaces for socialising, volunteering, and health-focused activities. The Sant Josep centre's renovation has already been completed and has received positive feedback from users. Andrés, a long-time attendee, said the new facilities are "very good" and finally offer enough space for the number of members.
City-Wide Network of Support
L'Hospitalet's network of senior centres supports physical and mental well-being, strengthens community ties, and defends the rights of older people. The upcoming works in El Gornal are part of a broader policy to ensure all centres meet current standards and serve their communities effectively.
