Annual Food Drive Responds to Cost-of-Living Pressure

The Port of Barcelona has launched the 21st edition of its Solidarity Container initiative, a campaign to gather food for people facing economic hardship. The port authority said rising food and basic goods prices over the past year make the drive "especially necessary". In a statement released on Wednesday 4th November 2026, the port highlighted that widespread participation from hundreds of individuals and companies has historically generated thousands of kilograms of donations. In the previous edition, the campaign collected 2,720 kilograms of food, all of which was handed to the Food Bank Foundation (Banc dels Aliments) for direct distribution.

Online Donations Open Until January 2027

This year’s campaign will run exclusively online, through dedicated portals on the Port of Barcelona’s website and the Food Bank Foundation’s site. Donations will be accepted until Thursday 7th January 2027. The digital format aims to improve stock management and ensure better quality and suitability of food items distributed.

The Solidarity Container reflects the port community’s commitment to helping those in need, turning the port into a motor of hope.

The Port Authority is urging members of the port community and the general public to contribute. Every donation supports residents in vulnerable circumstances across the Barcelona area. Residents and businesses can make contributions via the Port of Barcelona’s corporate social responsibility page and the Food Bank Foundation’s official website.
