Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), Catalonia’s publicly owned railway operator, will stop trains between Gràcia and Sarrià stations from Tuesday 11 August to Sunday 23 August 2026 while it renews track on the Barcelona–Vallès line.

Passengers using the L6, S1 and S2 services will be unable to travel by train through the affected central section for 13 days. FGC plans a replacement bus service between Gràcia and Sarrià and has advised passengers to use other public-transport options for urban journeys in Barcelona.

Five stations and three lines affected

The interruption will affect train calls at Gràcia, Sant Gervasi, Muntaner, La Bonanova and Sarrià. The renewal work will cover the track between Gràcia and Muntaner, as well as track junctions on the section from Muntaner to La Bonanova, according to reporting on FGC’s plans.

FGC said the work cannot be compatible with train operations for technical, safety and operational reasons, and described it as essential to maintain the infrastructure’s functionality, reliability and durability.

Replacement buses to be accessible

FGC has put the replacement-bus service out to tender at a value of €704,000 including VAT. The operator intends to carry out road tests before the closure to check that buses can connect with arriving train services at the stations.

The buses must carry at least 50 and no more than 100 passengers, and must be accessible for people with reduced mobility. FGC selected August for the intervention because it is the month with the lowest passenger demand, although it expects the disruption to be significant.

Passengers travelling on the L6, S1 or S2 between 11 and 23 August should allow additional time and use the replacement buses or other public transport within Barcelona.
