Known criminal offences in Esplugues de Llobregat fell by 9.7% in the first six months of 2026, according to figures presented by the Ajuntament, or town council, at its Local Security Council meeting on 23 July.
Residents and local businesses saw 1,357 offences recorded between January and June, compared with 1,502 during the same period in 2025. The council said the reduction followed increased preventive policing and patrols in neighbourhoods.
- Robberies involving violence or intimidation fell by 16%.
- Burglary with force at homes fell by 39.4%.
- Robberies with force at commercial premises fell by 60.4%.
Police patrols and neighbourhood prevention
The Local Security Council met at Espai Baronda under the chairmanship of Mayor Eduard Sanz. According to the council's figures, the Local Police increased its total activity by 39.2%, while preventive patrols and neighbourhood surveillance operations rose by almost 80%.
Neighbourhood policing carried out 1,035 direct services involving residents and businesses, the council said. The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police force, also took part in the coordination work cited by the mayor.
“The positive trend in the first half encourages us to continue strengthening prevention and street presence, with measures such as neighbourhood policing, the night-watch service and the rollout of video-surveillance cameras,” Sanz said.
Sanz said coordination between the Local Police, the Mossos d'Esquadra and other security forces was necessary to provide a more effective response and improve safety in the town's neighbourhoods.
Twelve-month total remains above the previous year
The six-month comparison does not reflect the full preceding year. From July 2025 to June 2026, Esplugues recorded 3,111 known criminal offences, a 1.7% increase on the previous 12-month period.
Figures presented to the council identified thefts from inside vehicles as the main factor behind the higher rolling annual total. The documentation did not state the number of such thefts or their percentage change.
