Two minors were arrested on Wednesday over their alleged involvement in a violent robbery using pepper spray in Olesa de Montserrat, Barcelona province, Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police force, said in a statement reported on Friday.
The alleged assault took place on 21 June during Olesa de Montserrat's main festivities. For young people and families travelling home by train after local events, the case concerns an alleged attack on two young people who were waiting with friends to return home.
Two young people allegedly attacked while waiting for a train
According to the Mossos statement, the group was surrounded by about ten young people.
“About ten young people with an aggressive attitude.”
One of the two young people fell while trying to get away, the statement said. He was allegedly punched and kicked, sprayed with pepper spray and robbed of a high-end mobile phone.
The second young person was also allegedly struck and sprayed. The group tried to take his waist bag, but he resisted and kept it, according to the statement.
Victim information and photo identification led to arrests
Mossos investigators identified one of the minors after one victim provided information because he already knew the suspect. A victim later identified the second minor in a photographic identification procedure, police said.
Both minors were arrested on suspicion of robbery with violence and intimidation. The on-duty Juvenile Prosecutor's Office has taken charge of the proceedings and ordered that they be transferred to its headquarters in Barcelona.
