Chase on the AP-7

On Friday 6th November at around 7:30 AM, officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra observed a 25-year-old man riding an electric personal mobility vehicle (VMP) on the northbound shoulder of the AP-7 motorway near Girona. The man was not wearing a helmet. Police attempted to stop him, but he ignored their instructions and continued riding. Approximately 100 metres later, officers managed to halt him and requested identification. The man provided no details, and after being identified, fled once again in defiance of police orders.

Arrest and Fines

Further along the motorway, within the municipality of Sant Gregori at kilometre point 58, officers intercepted the man a second time and arrested him on suspicion of resistance and disobedience to authority. In addition to the criminal charge, he received multiple administrative fines for:

  • Operating a VMP on a motorway
  • Not wearing a helmet
  • Refusing to take an alcohol test
  • Driving without insurance
A VMP cannot circulate on motorways and can put your safety and that of others at risk.
