Arrest Follows Home Invasion and Threat

The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, have arrested a man who entered a single-family home on Nicolás María Carrer d’Urgoiti in El Prat de Llobregat on Sunday 1st November 2026. After scaling the building's facade and appearing on the roof, he pointed an airsoft pistol at the female resident when she confronted him. The incident unfolded at approximately 5:00 PM, when local residents reported seeing a man walking through the streets of Nicolás María Urgoiti and Major carrying a handgun. The area, adjacent to the disused plots of the former La Seda and La Paperera industrial sites, has long suffered from urban decay, squatting and unregulated settlements.

"I'm looking for scrap metal,"

The suspect, reportedly of Maghrebi origin, allegedly entered the property and climbed the exterior wall to reach the roof. When the homeowner challenged him, he responded verbally but then pointed the replica weapon at her, prompting her to retreat indoors for safety. No injuries were reported. Police patrols were dispatched following an emergency call and arrived shortly after the confrontation. The suspect fled the rooftop upon their arrival but was quickly located and detained. During a search, officers confirmed the weapon was a non-functional airsoft pistol, designed to resemble a real firearm but incapable of firing live rounds.

Residents Voice Longstanding Safety Concerns

Local residents have repeatedly raised concerns about deteriorating security in the southern part of El Prat, citing years of neglect by local and regional authorities. They say repeated reports of illegal activity and unsafe conditions have gone unaddressed. "Whatever we communicate, they don't pay any attention to us," one resident told Metrópoli Abierta earlier this year. Some believe the lack of action is intentional, suggesting officials hope affected families will eventually leave the area due to frustration. Plans for a major redevelopment of the abandoned industrial land have been announced as "imminent" by the city council, though residents remain sceptical due to delays stretching back more than two decades. The arrest underscores ongoing tensions in neglected urban zones where infrastructure stagnation and social vulnerability intersect. The Mossos have not released the suspect's identity or confirmed charges, but investigations into the circumstances of the trespass and threat are ongoing.
