Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police force, have arrested three people and seized six firearms while investigating a shooting in La Mina, Sant Adrià de Besòs, on 12 May.
The shooting took place on Carrer de Saturn and caused no injuries, according to the Mossos. The arrests and weapons seizure remove firearms from circulation after shots were fired in a residential street in the neighbourhood.
Searches carried out in five municipalities
Two men and a woman were detained in an operation carried out in Barcelona, Badalona, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Terrassa and Maçanet de la Selva.
About 150 Mossos officers took part, including criminal investigation officers, public-order units, dog handlers, drone operators and forensic police, according to reporting on the operation.
Firearms and cash seized
Police seized six firearms and more than €40,000 in cash during the searches. The weapons were:
- three pistols;
- one revolver;
- one submachine gun; and
- one shotgun.
Investigators suspect the detainees were connected to a family group involved in a dispute with another group in La Mina. Police sources cited in reporting said the shooting may have been linked to an unpaid debt.
The three suspects were due to be brought before a court, where they could face allegations including membership of a criminal group and firearms offences.
