Work Starts 2nd November
The Ajuntament de Montgat will begin road reorganisation works in Plaça de la Mare on Monday 2nd November 2026, with the aim of improving traffic safety and adapting the space to new bus stop locations. The project is expected to last approximately two weeks.
Changes to Traffic Layout
The works will involve renewing horizontal road markings with new paint and installing bollards to regulate vehicle flow and reduce speeds. The intervention targets a high-pedestrian area near the municipal market and several educational centres, where footfall is consistently high.
The aim is to improve safety and adapt the space to the new location of bus stops.
The changes form part of a broader effort to manage mobility around the Plaça de la Mare, which serves as a key access point for local services and transport. According to the council, the updated layout will help calm traffic in what is considered a sensitive urban environment. The announcement follows a 2020 mobility assessment by the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM) related to the expansion of the municipal market at the same location, which highlighted the need for traffic adjustments to accommodate increased foot and vehicle traffic.
