Staff at the Telefèric de Montjuïc, Barcelona’s cable car linking the city with Montjuïc, will hold partial strikes on Thursday 24 September, Saturday 26 September and Sunday 11 October. The action is scheduled to affect visitors during the La Mercè festival, with stoppages planned from 12:30 to 14:30 and from 15:45 to 17:45 on each day.
People intending to use the cable car during those periods should check the TMB Montjuïc cable car service page before travelling and allow extra time for journeys to and from the mountain.
Workers seek progress in negotiations
The workforce announced the stoppages through the Solidaritat Obrera trade union. In its statement, workers said negotiations with Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), the public transport operator, began in January 2025 but had reached what they described as an unsustainable point.
“The aim is to secure fairer and more dignified working conditions, unblock negotiations and ensure the company addresses workers’ demands seriously and effectively.”
Workers cited insecure employment and conditions they consider inadequate for the responsibilities and characteristics of operating the service. They said that some conditions had worsened rather than improved.

The Telefèric de Montjuïc is operated by TMB and runs between Parc de Montjuïc and Castell de Montjuïc, with a stop at Mirador de l’Alcalde.
