Forty Events to Promote Sustainable Transport

European Mobility Week will take place in Barcelona from 16 to 22 September 2026, featuring nearly forty activities aimed at promoting public transport and sustainable urban mobility. The theme this year remains 'Mobility for all', with a focus on intergenerational justice and universal access regardless of income, location, gender, or ability, according to the Barcelona City Council. Residents and visitors can participate in talks, workshops, and promotional events across all city districts, with over 2,000 places available for open-day visits to normally restricted transport facilities. These include behind-the-scenes tours of TRAM depots, RENFE's Rodalies management centre, the Bicing bike-sharing operations hub, and the Guàrdia Urbana stables.

Family Activities and Public Access

A series of family-friendly events will run throughout the week, including guided visits to unique sites such as the Cuca de Llum at Tibidabo and Glòries park. The activities are free and designed to help citizens understand how the city’s transport infrastructure operates. X1 Express Bus Route Extended

Starting 21 September, the TMB X1 express bus will extend its route from Plaça Francesc Macià to Avinguda Albert Bastardas in Zona Universitària, at the end of Avinguda Diagonal. The extension, announced by TMB on 13 September, aims to provide a faster connection between central areas like Eixample and Glòries and the university district. The change coincides with European Mobility Week and forms part of ongoing efforts to improve sustainable transport links. The X1 extension will connect the city centre with Zona Universitària more quickly, improving access for students, workers, and residents.

Additional highlights during the week include a display of a historic fire engine by the Barcelona Fire Service on Gran de Gràcia and Sants – Creu Coberta, and a showcase of classic and modern buses by TMB on Passeig de Gràcia. There will also be opportunities to view ongoing work to extend the FGC’s L8 rail line and visit the disused Gaudí-designed 'ghost' metro station.
