Metro reinforcements for Diada events

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has increased metro services across the network for Catalonia's National Day, known as the Diada, on Friday 11 September 2026. The enhanced operation, coordinated with the Barcelona City Council, aims to manage high passenger numbers expected during afternoon demonstrations in central areas including Gran Via, Plaça d'Universitat, Plaça de Catalunya, and Via Laietana, where surface traffic will be restricted. Between approximately 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM, the metro will run 12 additional trains on conventional lines, increasing afternoon capacity by nearly 12% compared to a typical public holiday. Line L3 will see the largest boost, with service levels up by 33%. The metro will operate until 2:00 AM to accommodate late travel.

TMB and the Barcelona City Council recommend using public transport, especially the metro, particularly in the afternoon.

Stations to see extra staff

Enhanced customer service, cleaning, and security staff will be deployed at key central and interchange stations closest to the demonstration routes. These include:

  • Rocafort (L1)
  • Urgell (L1)
  • Universitat (L1 and L2)
  • Catalunya (L1 and L3)
  • Passeig de Gràcia (L2, L3 and L4)
  • Urquinaona (L1 and L4)
  • Jaume I (L4)

Passengers are advised to follow instructions from public address systems, illuminated signs, and metro staff, who will be in contact with public security authorities. Extra travel time should be allowed.

Bus diversions during morning and afternoon

Several bus lines will face route changes. In the morning, floral offerings at the Rafael Casanova monument will affect services along Ronda de Sant Pere. Affected lines include D50, H16, V17, 19, and the red route of the Barcelona Bus Turístic. In the afternoon, two demonstration marches will converge on Plaça de Catalunya:

  • One starting on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes (at Carrer de Casanova), proceeding via Plaça de la Universitat and Ronda de la Universitat.
  • Another starting on Via Laietana near Plaça de la Catedral, continuing along Ronda de Sant Pere.

Between approximately 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM, 18 bus lines may face diversions or limitations: D20, H12, H16, V15, V17, 19, 22, 24, 39, 47, 54, 55, 59, 63, 67, 120, and the blue and red routes of the Barcelona Bus Turístic.
