A man living in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat is under investigation over an alleged €4,000 fraud involving discounted airline tickets, the Civil Guard said on Monday, 14 September.
The case concerns a Madrid resident who was offered ZED tickets, a reduced-fare airline ticket arrangement for the family and friends of airline employees. L'Hospitalet residents considering online travel offers should be aware that the investigation concerns contact made through an online blog and payment requested in instalments.
Tickets to Qatar were never provided
According to the Civil Guard account, the woman found the alleged seller in an online discussion thread about ZED tickets and continued the conversation by email. He allegedly offered several tickets to Qatar, with the agreed price to be paid in two instalments totalling €4,000.
The alleged seller also held a video call with the woman, explaining the ticket conditions and saying that she and her partner could use the arrangement, the Civil Guard said.
When the planned travel date arrived, the woman could no longer contact him. The tickets were not supplied and the money was not returned, according to the investigation.
Communications and payments examined
The Civil Guard said it identified the L'Hospitalet resident by examining communications between the two parties and the financial transactions. The force described the matter as an investigation; the source does not report any charge or court ruling.
