Three people have been arrested in Gurb, a village in Barcelona province, following the dismantling of a large-scale cannabis cultivation operation that produced 3,599 plants, according to the National Police, as reported by Europapress.
The operation, carried out on Wednesday 28th October, targeted a property where officers discovered the plants spread across multiple rooms and two adjacent warehouses. The seized cannabis weighed over 220,000 kilograms and had an estimated street value of €406,311, rising to €1.5 million if sold in smaller quantities.
Police described the facility as highly professional, featuring advanced environmental controls, automated irrigation, artificial lighting systems, and illegal connections to the public electricity grid. The power fraud is estimated at around €99,000, based on an assessment by the utility company.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Two suspects, acting as on-site cultivators, were detained at the property while sleeping. A third suspect, believed to be the operation’s manager responsible for oversight and security, was arrested later in Tordera. Authorities say false documentation was used to rent the premises.
Two of the detainees have been remanded in custody, while the third is free under judicial supervision. The investigation began in June after police detected a strong odour of cannabis near the building.
