The 29th DocsBarcelona International Documentary Film Festival will take place from 7 to 17 May 2026, opening with the Spanish premiere of "A Fox Under A Pink Moon" at Cinemes Aribau. This acclaimed film, co-directed by Mehrdad Oskouei and Soraya Akhalaghi, won Best Film at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).
"A Fox Under A Pink Moon" documents Soraya Akhalaghi's five-year struggle to escape an abusive marriage in Iran and reunite with her mother in Austria. The festival will host its Spanish premiere on 7 May at 20:00, with both director Mehrdad Oskouei and co-director Soraya Akhalaghi present. Additionally, DocsBarcelona will present its 2026 Docs d'Honor Award to Scottish-Irish filmmaker Mark Cousins, recognising his significant contributions to documentary cinema.
The festival aims to bring the documentary genre closer to the public through a selection of feature films and short films. Screenings and activities will feature invited filmmakers from around the world.
