Catalonia formed 2,142 commercial companies in June, the highest June total in the National Statistics Institute's historical series since 2008, according to provisional figures reported by ARA on 12 August 2026.

The total was 9.8% higher than in June 2025 and marked the first June in which Catalonia exceeded 2,000 company incorporations. For entrepreneurs, investors and firms serving newly registered businesses, the record number of incorporations was accompanied by a much lower level of capital declared when those companies were formed.

Companies subscribed approximately €45.8 million in capital at incorporation, compared with nearly €113.7 million in June 2025. The June total was the lowest for that month since 2020.

That means the rise in registrations did not translate into a rise in the capital subscribed at formation. The figures record the number of commercial companies created and the capital declared for their incorporation, rather than the later turnover, employment or survival of those businesses.

June reverses two months of falling company creation

The June result ended two consecutive months of year-on-year declines in company formation in Catalonia, in April and May.

Business dissolutions rise to 143

The National Statistics Institute recorded 143 company dissolutions in Catalonia during June, 20.2% more than a year earlier.

  • 95 companies were dissolved voluntarily.
  • 9 were dissolved through mergers with other companies.
  • 39 were recorded under other reasons.

Across Spain, 11,153 commercial companies were incorporated in June, the highest June figure since 2007. The national total followed two year-on-year declines in April and May.

Subscribed capital for new companies across Spain was €344 million, down 22.2% on the previous year, while 1,814 companies were dissolved, an annual increase of 14.6%.
