Alert Issued for Heavy Rainfall and Potential Flooding
The Municipal Civil Protection Service of Castelldefels has activated the Municipal Flood Action Plan (PAM INUNCAT) in the ALERT phase today, Thursday 1 October 2026, following a weather forecast for intense rainfall. The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC) predicts a high probability of over 20 mm of rain within 30 minutes between 08:00 and 14:00, with a lower chance of exceeding 40 mm in the same period. From 14:00 to 20:00, there is a low probability of rainfall exceeding 20 mm in 30 minutes.
Precautionary Measures Underway
During the morning window, there is also a medium probability of more than 60 mm of rain falling over three hours, classed as moderate risk. The alert phase is designed to prepare municipal emergency teams and coordinate operational responses ahead of potential incidents. Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution, avoid low-lying areas and follow official safety instructions.
Public Urged to Stay Informed and Prepared
The SMC’s warning system, known as Situació Meteorològica de Perill (SMP), categorises weather threats by severity and timing to support civil protection planning. In the event of an emergency, the public is reminded to call 112 immediately. Further weather updates and alerts are available via the Meteocat municipal forecast for Castelldefels and the SMP warnings page.
