New Park for Sant Ramon Neighbourhood
The Barcelona City Council has approved a project to convert a disused industrial building on Carrer del Pintor Tapiró into a 720-square-metre green space, enhancing public areas in the Les Corts district. The site, located between numbers 23 and 29 on the street, lies just metres from Spotify Camp Nou and adjacent to a historic industrial complex dating back to 1910. The development will provide the Sant Ramon neighbourhood with a new naturalised area designed to improve urban quality of life. This initiative forms part of the city's Proximity and Interior Spaces (PEPI) network, aimed at reclaiming underused plots to expand green infrastructure and climate resilience.
Historic Site to Become Climate Refuge
The area was originally home to Amadeu Carné’s textile machinery factory, designed by architect Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia. It later became Sociedad de Aprestos y Estampados Tapias y Pujol, remaining active until its closure in 1983. The upcoming demolition of the current structure marks a shift from industrial heritage to ecological renewal. The new park will include a 160-square-metre perimeter flowerbed and multiple tree species, creating a climate refuge to help mitigate urban heat. To prevent anti-social behaviour, the space will be secured with a double gate during night hours, a measure informed by past issues at nearby Maria Teresa Vernet gardens.
The future green space will offer residents more shade, rest areas, and a healthier urban environment.
Construction and City-Wide Plans
Work on the project is set to last five and a half months at a cost of €540,850. It is one of 25 new green spaces planned across Barcelona under the PEPI programme, which aims to add 20 hectares of green areas citywide. Other projects include a green roof over the Dipòsit del Rei Martí and the redevelopment of an abandoned plot in Horta. Further details and project progress will be shared via the Ajuntament’s public participation platform for the Pintor Tapiró site.
