Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni and Núria Parlon, Catalonia's Minister of Interior and Public Security, will sign a new public-security coordination agreement at 11:30 on Thursday 17 September.
The agreement will replace the framework in force since 2005 and is intended to improve joint work between the Guàrdia Urbana, Barcelona's municipal police force, and the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police. For Barcelona residents, the planned changes concern how the two forces exchange information, receive complaints and support victims of gender and domestic violence.
According to the Barcelona City Council press office, the Framework Agreement will adapt the shared policing model to current public-security needs and challenges in the city.
Planned changes to police cooperation
The new framework is due to include:
- stronger mechanisms for exchanging information between the two police forces;
- a consolidated shared system for receiving complaints and providing services to residents;
- closer coordination in investigations into certain types of crime; and
- expanded cooperation in the care, protection and follow-up of victims of gender-based and domestic violence.
The City Council has described the text as the new agreement between the municipal police and the Mossos d'Esquadra in its published information on the agreement.
