A minor suffered a bladed weapon attack by a large group in Barcelona's Fórum area during the early hours of the morning. Police are investigating the incident, which occurred at the start of Avinguda Diagonal.

The victim was taken to hospital but is not in life-threatening condition, police sources told 20minutos. The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's police force, have started an investigation to identify and arrest the attackers. The incident took place around 03:30, El Caso reported. Police confirmed a large group was involved, however, they have not yet made any arrests.

Investigation Underway

Detectives are gathering evidence and reviewing CCTV footage from the Fórum area. This is a significant urban space known for its large events and public art installations. The attack happened near the beginning of Avinguda Diagonal, a major thoroughfare that crosses the city. Group attacks with bladed weapons present particular challenges for law enforcement. Identifying multiple individuals in the dark can be difficult.

This attack follows a separate fatal incident hours earlier in the Raval district. Around 23:55, police received a report of a person seriously injured by a bladed weapon on Carrer Cera. The victim later died in hospital.

Separate Fatal Incident in Raval

Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a minor as the alleged perpetrator in connection with the Raval death. The Raval, a central Barcelona neighbourhood, has faced ongoing challenges with crime and public order. These two incidents, while distinct, show a worrying trend of bladed weapon violence in the city. Residents and local businesses express growing concern over safety.

Public Safety Concerns

Barcelona, a city popular with tourists and home to a large expat community, relies on its reputation for safety. Incidents involving bladed weapons can damage this image and cause anxiety among the 1.6 million residents. The Ajuntament de Barcelona has previously announced measures to address street crime. These efforts include increased police presence and community outreach programmes.

The investigation into the Fórum attack continues as authorities work to identify those responsible. Police urge anyone with information about either incident to come forward. Authorities remain committed to ensuring public safety across Barcelona.
