Work Begins on Largest European Asbestos Removal

Asbestos removal works have begun in Badia del Vallès, starting at building number 19 on Carrer Porto. The operation, carried out by specialist firm AGD, marks the launch of the largest asbestos removal project ever undertaken in Europe, covering 127 building blocks in the municipality. The works began on Tuesday 13 October 2026 and will proceed sequentially along Carrer Porto from number 19 down to number 1. This first phase is part of a wider plan affecting multiple streets, with further work scheduled in the coming weeks on Avinguda Costa Brava and Avinguda Mediterrània.

Safety Measures and Resident Cooperation Required

Residents are being asked to cooperate fully to ensure safety during the works. The Badia del Vallès City Council has outlined several mandatory actions for property owners and residents, including keeping windows near affected pipes closed, disconnecting facade-connected air conditioning units, and removing clotheslines and awnings. Boilers and other equipment connected to the asbestos-containing pipes must be disconnected in advance by owners. Each community’s work is expected to last up to three days, depending on weather, technical issues, or unforeseen complications.

The City Council requests the maximum cooperation of all residents to ensure the safe and effective development of the works.

Parking Restrictions in Place

Parking will be restricted at the start of Carrer Algarve from 00:00 on 13 October until heavy machinery use behind the Porto blocks is completed. The restricted zone is clearly signposted. Residents and visitors are advised to plan alternative parking arrangements during this period.

How to Report Issues

Concerns or incidents related to the asbestos removal can be reported via WhatsApp to 930 485 573 or through an online form accessible via a QR code provided by the council. Further information and updates will be shared directly with the 127 communities involved as the project progresses.
