Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, the city’s public transport operator, will close the corridor linking L1 (red line) and L3 (green line) at Catalunya station from Monday 6 July until Sunday 6 September, according to a service notice and a statement reported on Friday. The closure affects passengers changing between the two lines at Catalunya, in Plaça de Catalunya, Barcelona’s central square and one of the city’s main transport interchanges.

TMB said the passage will shut for improvement works for two months during the summer. Trains on both metro lines will continue to run, but the internal pedestrian connection between L1 and L3 at the station will not be available during the works.

What changes for passengers at Catalunya station

  • Closure starts: Monday 6 July
  • Planned end date: Sunday 6 September
  • Affected route: the internal corridor between L1 (red line) and L3 (green line) at Catalunya station
  • What still runs: metro services on both lines continue operating

For commuters and visitors who usually change between the two lines at Catalunya, that means extra walking time and a different route through the station, or using another interchange. TMB’s service notices page says passengers should check the latest travel information before setting off.

Passengers needing a simpler interchange can also plan an alternative route through nearby central stations, depending on their journey, using TMB’s app or journey planner. L3 service information is also published on the operator’s official line page.

TMB says works will last two months

The closure was announced by TMB on Friday and is scheduled to run throughout most of the summer holiday period. Secondary reports by El Periódico and Ara also described the works as a two-month shutdown of the connection corridor at Catalunya.

No wider suspension of L1 or L3 train services was announced in the material released so far. The published measure is limited to the interchange corridor inside Catalunya station, with the planned reopening date set for 6 September.
