FGC Restores Direct Train Link Between Sant Cugat and Barcelona

Normal Train Services Resume on Barcelona-Vallès Line

Passengers can once again travel directly from Sant Cugat to Barcelona without transferring to buses. Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) restored full service on the Barcelona-Vallès line on Monday, 24 August 2026, following the completion of track renewal works between Gràcia and Sarrià stations. The service had been suspended from 11 to 23 August, affecting lines L6, S1, and S2. During that period, passengers travelling between Sant Cugat and Plaça de Catalunya were required to switch to a replacement bus service between Sarrià and Gràcia stations.

Track Upgrades to Improve Reliability and Reduce Maintenance

The works focused on replacing the existing ballast track with a concrete slab track between Gràcia and Muntaner stations, and renewing the track switches between Muntaner and La Bonanova. According to FGC, this upgrade enhances service robustness and lowers long-term maintenance costs. The project is part of a broader initiative to renew the track along the entire stretch between Plaça Catalunya and Sarrià.

FGC is aware of the inconvenience caused by having to transfer to a bus, increasing journey times. For this reason, the company wishes to thank passengers for their understanding during these days.

Impact on Passengers and Transport Networks

The temporary closure also affected road traffic along Via Augusta, with partial road closures and cycle lane diversions between Carrer dels Madrazo and Carrer de Ganduxer until 30 August. During the disruption, replacement buses connected the affected stations: Gràcia, Sant Gervasi, Muntaner, La Bonanova, Les Tres Torres, and Sarrià. Trains between Sarrià and destinations in the Vallès region, including Terrassa and Sabadell, continued to run on their regular schedules. Between Gràcia and Plaça de Catalunya, train frequency was temporarily reduced to a maximum of 18 trains per hour per direction during peak times.
