The event follows a commemoration held in the district on Wednesday, where speakers presented Catalan language, culture and local roots as a response to hate speech, disinformation and political polarisation, according to original reporting by El Jardí de Sant Gervasi i Sarrià.
Catalan culture and democratic plurality
Maria Eugènia Gay, the councillor for Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, referred to what she described as a climate of fracture, polarisation and confrontation. She said democratic values, plurality and freedom should be defended against hate speech and the manipulation of information.
For people living across Sarrià, Sant Gervasi and the district’s former village neighbourhoods, the message placed everyday use of Catalan and participation in local cultural life within the Diada commemoration.
Poetry and music recital
The Wednesday event included a poetry and music recital by Martí Sales, a poet, novelist, translator, musician and rhapsodist, and singer and composer Joana Gomila.
Sales introduced and recited works by Catalan writers including Josep Carner, Maria Mercè Marçal and Josep Vicenç Foix, while Gomila provided musical accompaniment. El Jardí reported that Sales won the 2026 Barcelona Floral Games Poetry Prize.
